Are you a man, aged 35+, caring for a significant other?

Exploring the Impact on the Mental Wellbeing of Men Caring for Significant Others

This study will look at the impact that a caring role can have on males providing care to a significant other, such as partner, spouse, child or parent. In addition, it will explore whether men who are carers feel their masculinity and view of ‘traditional gender roles’ influence their experiences (and if so, how).

Hello, from the researcher!

Hi! I'm Chloe, and I'm conducting this research for two reasons; to complete my PhD, and to better understand the experiences of men in contemporary caring roles. I began studying at Edge Hill University in 2014, where I completed my BA (Hons) in Health and Social Wellbeing. I then completed my MSc at Salford University in Dementia: Care and the Enabling Environment, and returned to EHU in 2018 to begin my PhD journey.

I am passionate about this area of research having worked professionally as a carer for several years, and encountering many men providing care for their partners or spouses. I have also had several male family members and close friends provide care to a significant other, and yet there has been very little research into this group of carers in the past.

I am in my mid-20's, have two springer spaniels Macie and Ella, love cooking, scrapbooking and hiking and live in Lancashire.
