Results and Data Handling

All written information that is collected about you during the research will be anonymous. Only pictures that you have given us permission to use will be used in any output from our study (e.g. media reports or specialist journals). Your details will also be kept anonymous from the researcher’s supervisory team, when they are consulted upon. There may be circumstances in which I may have to exclude photographs of faces and other people, even if they have given consent.

Please note that if you submit photographs identifying yourself, and consent is given to use these photographs in the research, it is possible that these photographs will end up in the public domain through publication to academic journals. They will therefore be pixilated or described rather than included in picture format, should they still identify you. If you disclose or show evidence of illegal or generally considered unacceptable, insensitive or offensive behaviours, or actions that raise safeguarding concerns, the researcher may be obligated to report these actions. Whilst you may ask that something be kept confidential, this cannot be guaranteed, and concerns may be disclosed by the researcher for safeguarding reasons. Please consider this before consenting to take part in the study.

It is possible that the results of this study may be published in specialist journals, and presented at conferences. Key points of the study (not including the photographs submitted, or direct quotes from participants) may also be shared on social media to raise awareness following publication. Any quotes given will be anonymized and if they are so unique, they will not be used unless they can be realistically disguised to avoid detection by others as far as possible.

We will handle your data in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). GDPR replaced the Data Protection Directive in 2018, acting as the primary law regulating how companies protect EU citizens’ personal data. Edge Hill University (EHU) is the sponsor for this study. We will be using information from you in order to undertake this study and will act as the data controller for this study. This means that we are responsible for looking after your information and using it properly. EHU will keep identifiable information about you for 10 years after the study has finished (2031). The only person with access to your name and contact details will be the main researcher, who need to contact you about the research study. People working from and with EHU may look at anonymised research records for auditing purposes, to check that the research is being done accurately.

Your rights to access, change or move your information are limited, as we need to manage your information in specific ways in order for the research to be accurate. To safeguard your rights, we will use the minimum personally-identifiable information possible. You can find out more about how we use your information at URL edgehill.ac.uk/about/legal/privacy.
